Feeling Of Ants In Ears, White And Crusty Opening In Ears. Applying Polysporin On Ear Bud. Should I See Specialist?

For several months now I have been bothered with something in my right ear. I don't know how to even describe it, but don't believe it's an inner ear infection. It feels like hundreds of little ants crawling around. The bottom part of the opening is white & crusty . I've been putting polysporin on an earbud and spreading it inside and out every night so I can get some sleep. It does seem to relieve it for an hour or so then the crawling ant sensation comes back. Is this something that I can treat at home or is it serious enough to see an ear specialist on this?
Thank you
