Extremely Painful Roof Of Mouth, Feeling Of Smooth And Scratch On That Spot. History Of Swollen Palate, Tender Teeth After Having Very Spicy Food. Advice

About a week ago my upper left palate became a little swollen and my teeth were a bit tender. The next day, the swelling seemed to have gone down but the roof of my mouth was extremely painful. It felt like there was maybe a scratch on it. I had recently eaten a lot of very spicy stuff over a few days up until the swelling started. It has been almost a week and the pain has been awful to the point that it is very hard to eat anything. That spot on the roof of my mouth now feels very smooth.

Hi,

Spicy foods as such does not cause any problem...when hot foods are served that would have burnt your mucosa...But your presentation is a smooth bump...that would have been an accidental finding...that would have been a fibroma that would have been present previously...since that would have grown in size or you would have accidentally seen the bump you would have thought that the swelling was only for the last three days... these kind of swellings wont hurt you except for the discomfort....

Clinical evaluation is required before confirming the diagnosis...visit a Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon for an expert opinion....

I do hope that you have found something helpful and Informative.

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
This is as you know very well that due to irritant nature of food .
The food burns the upper palate .
Apply choline salicylates & lignocaine hydrochloride 4-5 times in days and within 3 days you will be alright.
Take pantoprazole 40 mg for 5 days ( one tablet / day).
Blend diet with more soothing liquid will help.
Good luck.

Hello,

Welcome to healthcaremagic.

Cause of occurence of swelling on palate has to be evaluated clinically.

The pus has to be drained completely.

If the associated tooth has deep caries, root canal treatment has to be performed.

Periodontally infected tooth if present, has to be curetted and root planning has to be done.

Take doxycycline for 7 days.

Meanwhile,maintain oral care.

Use of appliances or dentures has to be discontinued.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,
Thanks for asking your query,

Yes it can be painful and annoying .This lesion can be caused by many factors. It can be because of spicy foods, or a much more serious lesion. If it is gone in two weeks, it is probably minor, however, if this is present and does not go away, it demands attention. Please visit your dentist, or an oral surgeon for a proper history and diagnosis.your dentist will recognize and often diagnose the type of mouth sore or spot on basis of appearance and location.

wishing you a speedy recovery
regards,
dr.naveen
