Extremely hurt knee after hitting. Pain radiating to ankle, hip. What could have happened?

I hit my knee extremely hard 2 days ago walking into a hitch attached to a trailer. the pain and swelling has goren worse and now I have a bruise . The pain is now going down to my ankle and up to my hip. I have 2 children I stay home with everyday (ages 3 and 10 months) so unless necessary I really can t get to dr. do you think it is broke or cracked ur just hurt?

Thanks for your query.
Based on the description, You could have suffered a soft tissue contusion.
This is not a serious condition and is self limiting. It will resolve spontaneously within 1-2 weeks.
Please follow the RICE regime -
* Rest to the injured part and avoid any movement the produces pain
* Ice packing once in 2 hours over the injured area
* Elastic compression bandage around the swollen area
* Elevation of the injured limb to lessen the swelling
* Analgesic antiinflammatory medicines as needed
If your symptoms are not improving with the above measures, consult your family physician.
