I recently had an MRI in which the reviewing doctor wrote The differential diagnosis includes chronic microvascular ischemic disease at patient s age . (I m 65) I m trying to figure out what the implications of that diagnosis is for me. I have high cholesterol and am taking medication for it and I was diagnosed years ago with MS. Before going to implication firstly understand what is the literal meaning of microvascular ischemia.Microvascular ischemic disease (MID) is a small vessel disease which narrows down the diameter of the vessel and leads to reduced supply of the blood for tissue,In your case the system involved is gastro intestinal tract.As the blood supply will be hampered the intestines and other region will become ischemic causing severe pain and even gangrene can be there.
