Infectious Diseases Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to HCM.
There is some confusion regarding medications you have been prescribed.
Clotrimazole is antifungal, Cotrimoxazole is antibacterial and is not useful in ameobiasis.
E.histolytica causes intestinal amoebiasis which could occur in two forms.
Patient passes cysts without any symptoms.
Symptomatic patients who have diarrhea similar to dysentry.
Some patients may develop complications where the infection spreads to other organs like liver, lung etc.
Recurrent infection occurs due to inadequate therapy or repeated ingestion of contaminated food and water.
I am suspecting both in your case.
Please complete the full course of therapy for the infection and avoid eating or drinking outside.
Treatment has to be taken for 5-10 days.
Improved personal hygiene is a must. Hand washing before eating and after passing stools is very important.
Thanks.
