Does Swelling Of Throat Require Urgent Medical Attention?
My daughter has taken azithromycin for 4-5 days (the Doctor said her throat was swollen, but she had no signs of cold and flu)and on the fourth day she got ulcer on lower lip. She stopped the medicine and now is improving slowly. Should I wait? She said today morning that her throat seems better. Sounds still not back to normal. I just afraid she missed something. Otherwise she is normal.
The symptoms you mention in query are probably due to viral infection . That is why you should not always suppose to take antibiotics for sore throat every time , Because if the sore throat is due to viral infection (influenza) antibiotics will not going to work at all . Usually viral infection go by its own after completing its life cycle without any treatment and medicines are prescribed to relief symptoms . So i would suggest you to do warm saline gargles thrice a day , avoid cold food and beverages and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and swelling of throat . If it is getting better then there is no need for consultation i will go away in few days . But it doesn't get better then consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis and to rule out any allergic condition.
