Does Painful Swelling At The Point Of Injury Take Long To Heal?

Hi, I fell over 7 days ago and hit the top of my thigh on the edge of decking, no fractures as I can walk, lots of bruising which is now reducing, however I m concerned that swelling at the point of impact is still very painful and not reducing. How long should I expect it to heal - I am an active 50 year old - and should I be concerned that there is damage that I m not aware of. Many thanks Sarah

Hello,

If significant bruising is present, it can take up to 2 weeks for the swelling, pain and bruising to completely subside. This can be even longer if you are on medications like Aspirin.

Apply ice to the area and take Tylenol for pain.

If the pain worsens or you do not notice any improvement in the next few days, follow up with your primary care provider.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
