Does Negative Results For Sputum Test Indicate Tuberculosis?

J.Hi, my wife(21yrs) has been diagnised using xray and difff tests that she is having TB. The sputum tests (all 3)were negative. I have consulted 3 diff pulmonologists, one of them asked to star tb medicines(atk3..)but after couple of days of taking these medicines, her SGPT rised to 125. Then doc asked to stop taking tb medicines for 3 days and asked to take sgpt tests again after 3 days. The sgpt tests showed 49 after 3 days. I heard that oncr tb medicines started wr should not stop. So i consulted another pulmonologist. He advised me to go to govt tb hospital( erragadda chest hospital) as it is the top end hospital for tb. So i went there , doc saw xray report and gave some energy medicines and asked to take tests anf visit him after 4 days. The tests shows 2 sputum negavie test., RBS:99,S.CREATININE:0.7, ESR: 50,. PLEASE AFVISE ME IN THIS REGARDD. WHRTHER MY WIFE HAS TB?

Hi,

It is possible to have tuberculosis (TB) even if the sputum tests are negative. Sputum tests can sometimes give false negative results, especially in the early stages of the disease. Other tests, such as a chest X-ray or a CT scan, can also help diagnose TB. The presence of symptoms such as persistent cough, fever, night sweats, and weight loss, along with abnormal findings on imaging tests, can also suggest TB.

It is important to follow the advice of your healthcare provider and continue with the recommended treatment for TB, even if the initial sputum tests were negative. TB is a serious infectious disease that requires prompt treatment to prevent the spread of the disease and potential complications. Your wife's elevated SGPT levels could be a side effect of the TB medications, and her healthcare provider may need to adjust the dosage or switch to a different medication if necessary.

It is also important to continue monitoring her symptoms and following up with her healthcare provider regularly to ensure that the treatment is effective and that any side effects or complications are promptly addressed.
