Does Menstruation Aggravate Bladder Pain While Suffering From Cauda Equina Syndrome?

My daughter had surgery a little over a week ago for slow onset CES.....right after surgery her bladder pain was gone and remained good for 4 days....then the bladder sensation of a full bladder returned and has gotten bad again.....this coincides with her period starting up this month. We noted over the months between injury and surgery that things were always worse just before during and a few days after her period.....is it a normal for menstrual problems to cause the bladder pain to become more severe during that time each month with CES? Will this go away or should we put her on hormones to shut her cycles down?

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,

Menstruation itself does not cause bladder pain. The cauda equina syndrome itself causes a nerve root compression that can induce a pain. This can decrease with methylcobalamin supplements.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Rakhi Tayal, OBGYN
