Does Loss Of Energy And Sleepiness Indicate Pre-diabetes?

Last year I passed my physical with flying colors. So much so that the insurance company gave me the lowest life insurance rates they have. Im 31 (male), 5 foot 11, 175 pounds, former military, eat moderately well, excercise, yet I have a problem that has gotten huge. Without Sugar Digest suppliments, my body goes crazy when I eat most foods, especially breads or sugar food. My energy bottoms out, and I get incredibly sleepy beyond normal. I get migrains, and it is frequent. With the suppliment, Im great, lots of energy. Is this pre-diabetes? Why havent my physicals caught anything?

Hello there,
Good to know that till last year your health check results were in good shape.
The sugar digest supplement that you are taking is probably a low glycemic index food supplement which keeps your sugar levels to rise suddenly and even does not fall drastically because of which you feel energetic. The food you mentioned like breads and sugars may be causing your sugar levels to fall quickly within a few hours which is the reason you feel tired and sleepy. Sometimes this may trigger migraine. Now to answer your question about prediabetes it can only be answered with blood sugar levels. OGTT is the best test to tell you your diabetic status. If fasting sugar is 100- 125 or after 2 hours of glucose load it is 140-199 then you are pre-diabetic.
Hope this helps. Take care
