Does Knee Pain Developed During Pregnancy Will Not Heal?

hello,

I'm 31 years old female, i developed a knee problem after having my first baby a year and a half back..i can not bend my knee 100% and i can't sit on the floor anymore because it will be impossible for me to get up again by doing so! both my knees feel like they have been bruised and it hurts to touch around them, they became swollen and tender..my weight is 70 kg and my height is 173 cm..i have consulted several doctors but they all told me the problem is i have to lose weight! but for me i think it is more than just weight issue or vitamin d defficeincy..although i did x-ray and blood test but nothing to be noted except a major vitamin D defiicency which i have been taking large units from but still no improvement..it is very sad that i am living on local creams and panadol joint incase the pain gets severe! i am even afraid to get pregnant again and develop the same issue and worsen it! i wonder is it common to develop such knees pain during pregnancy and not healing? please let me know your opinion and your advice on the matter...thank you so much

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

I have studied your case.

As per your history and symptoms there can be injury to ligament or menisci of knee.
I will advise you to do MRI knee,

Till time you can take anti-inflammatory and calcium with vit D.
Partial tear can be managed conservatively with physiotherapy by USG and TENS.

Weight reduction will definitely help in pain reduction.

Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.

Wishing you good health.

Take care
