Does Asthenospermia Cause Abortion?

Hi Doctor,

2 years back when i went for sperm test there were 60 million sperms with 65% active. I am married for 5 years and my wife got pregnant in July 2010 and she had a missed abortion. And later she got pregnant in jan 2011 and she got missed abortion again due to irregular growth of foetus and no heart beat. Recently i went for second sperm test this time i got 44 million sperm count with 15% active motility. can you advice is their any chances of anthenospermia having related to abortion. or is their any problem in test.

well asthenospermia is sluggishness of sperms. firstly only a healthy sperm is able to fertilize the ova penetrating through the corona radiata. so if she has conceived twice its not related to the sperm morphology , rather the genetics part. i suggest twice now that she has had missed abortion, go for your( as a couple) genotype studies to rule out any genetic abnormalities. if negated then, further tests can be performed to rule out hormonal or anatomical causes. regards
