Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hi,

I read your query and can understand your concern regarding medications. It would have been better if you had mentioned exactly the symptoms that you are suffering from and the name of the anti-depressant that you had been put.

Anxiety can be a manifestation of depressive disorder as well. It can also co-exist together with depression. It would be better if you discuss regarding this with your psychiatrist for correct diagnosis.

Medications for both depression as well as anxiety are same, with some having better effect on anxiety. There are multiple groups like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, tricyclic anti-depressants, serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors, etc. So, if you are having side effect due to one drug, it is not necessary that you will be having side effect due to another anti-depressant too. So, i would suggest you not to worry about it and discuss with your psychiatrist the possible options that might be effective for you.

Hope this information was helpful. Best wishes.
