Does An Oncologist Need To Look At CA-125 And CEA Results?
I am a 10-year breast cancer survivor (diagnosed at 44) whose internist has been monitoring CA-125. A year ago it was 19 measured on the bayer Advia Centaur assay; this year it is 31.6 measured on the Roche Eclia assay. CEA, measured with the same assays, is also up from 1.4 to 2. Is this cause for concern? Do I need to schedule an ultrasound or go back to my oncologist with this information?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
CA-125 levels are normal up to 35 units/mL and CEA levels up to 3ng/mL is normal. Your both CA-125 and CEA levels are normal. No need to worry at this point of time. But, requires close follow-up.
My suggestion is repeat the test after 3 or 6 months. These levels are for ovarian status. Is there any family history of breast or ovarain cancer?
