Does Utrogestan Cause Light Bleeding?

Will utrogestan cause light bleeding? I am 33 years old and trying to get pregnant with our 3rd baby. I never struggled with the first 2, but have recently experienced and early onset of bleeding, about a week before my menstrual period should start. My gynae suspects a mild case of endometriosis or that my uterus is calcifying earlier than it should. I was prescribed utrogestan, I havr had none of the usual early bleeding, and am now experiencing spotting/light bleeding. I have also tested for pregnancy but the result was negative (have tested 2 weeks after implantation). Could I be pregnant or is the utrogestan causing this lighter period? Have used it now for 2 weeks.

OBGYN, Maternal and Fetal Medicine 's  Response
Hi, I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. Utrogestan is progesterone which supports the pregnancy by making uterine environment more favourable for foetus and hence given in women trying to conceive. It can have menstrual irregularities, but it is a very rare side effect.
Menstrual irregularities can be due to hormonal disturbances in the like hypothyroidism, hyperprolactemia or polycystic ovarian disease. I would suggest you to get a urine pregnancy test done to detect pregnancy, if present. If it is negative, then do consult an OBGYN specialist to get properly examined, investigated including hormonal profile and ultrasound and get appropriate treatment.
Hope you found the answer helpful.
Wishing you good health.
