Does Morphine Sulphate Withdrawal Cause Any Side Effects?

I m trying to get off of morphine sulfate but I m also very concerned with going through with-draws. I ve tried cutting back but I end-up getting very sick (Throwing up, very bad stomach pains, nasal issues & cold sweats). Is there some medications that could be helpful during the detox process? I also deal with high blood pressure issues and I m sure the with-draws increase my blood pressure.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Since morphine is known to cause both physical and psychological dependence its abrupt stopping results in troublesome withdrawal symptoms include high blood pressure, agitation, anxiety, insomnia, disorientation, vomiting, sweating, and fever. In view of the above withdrawal symptoms you need to be admitted in to the hospital for proper detox under closed monitoring.

Your doctor will administer diazepam or clonidine for the control of withdrawal symptoms. As a substitution therapy for morphine longer acting opioids like methadone or buprenorphine which have a less tendency to cause addiction or abuse potential are given and later stopped gradually.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
