Does Lisinopril Interact With Losartan And Clonidine?

My doctor took me off Lisinopril and raised Losartan from 50 mg to a 100 once a day. Plus told me to take clonidine 2x a day. Makes me tired, sleepy, lightheaded, eyes burning. I took clonidine before only if BPwas over 170 systolic. Did not cause any side effect, neither did the 50 mg Losartan or lisinopril But my BP both top and bottom went up to about 150-isg over 88094. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hi & Welcome.

Yes, Lisinopril can interact with Losartan.

Taking Lisinopril together with Losartan may increase the risk of side effects such as low BP and hyperkalemia (high blood potassium). In severe cases, hyperkalemia can lead to kidney failure, muscle paralysis, irregular heart rhythm, and cardiac arrest.

You may be more likely to develop hyperkalemia while taking these medications if you are elderly, dehydrated, or have kidney disease, or diabetes.

Based on the history you seem to have developed hypotension (fall in BP) in what appears to be due combined effects of Losartan and Clonidine.

In view of the above you need to consult your treating doctor to adjust the dose of the prescribed BP lowering medications.

Hope this will help.
