Does Lexapro And Mucinex Have Interactions And Is There Any Problem Stopping Mucinex?

I am currently taking lexapro and my doctor told me to take Mucinex DM. I read online that they may have interactions. I have noticed that I have been more anxious the past few days and that my head feels a bit out of it. Will I be ok if I stop taking the Mucinex DM?

HI. Welcome to HCM. Please do mention your age and sex next time. Lexapro (Escitalopram )is an oral drug that is used for treating depression and generalized anxiety disorder. It should not be combined with drugs in the monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitor class of antidepressants such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), phenelzine (Nardil), tranylcypromine (Parnate), selegiline (Eldepryl) and procarbazine (Matulane) or other drugs that inhibit monoamine oxidase such as linezolid (Zyvox) and intravenous methylene blue. Mucinex DM is a combination medication (Guaifenesin and dextromethorphan) used to relieve coughs caused by the common cold, bronchitis, and other breathing illnesses. Lexapro and mucinex does not have any known serious drug interactions. If in case u develop any adverse reactions its better to report to your treating doctor. Mucinex DM usually is not prescribed for long duration, u can stop once your breathing illness or cold subsides. Please do consult your doctor once before stopping. Wish u good health
