hello, i am caring for an 88 yr old man who has had a colostomy for 8 years and has severe OA... he is taking tylenol for the pain but the stiffness is bothering him most... is it ok for him to take ibuprofen for his symptoms ? ...and should he be using a heating pad or ice pack?

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Stiffness is due to muscle spasm secondary to pain around joints. Muscle spasm is reducing pain. For stiffness, muscle relaxants will be helpful.
2. Ibuprofen can be useful for pain, but not useful for muscle spasm.
3. Cold and warm heat application helpful in relieving pain as well as muscle spasm.
4. Knee joint support will help in limiting pain.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
