Does Fosinopril Sodium Cause Swelling In The Ankles And Feet?

I have been taking Fosinopril Sodium 40MG and recently started taking Amlodipine Besylate 10M, noticing some swelling in my ankles and feet more so on my left side but not painful. Am I having an interaction or possible side effect? I am a moderate drinker, however I haven t had a drink for a couple of days & swelling has gone down but not fully. Any recommendations.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

First of all, it's good to be an observer while you are on medication. No lisinopril usually does not cause ankle swelling. It's amlodipine which is causing this. Amlodipine will dilate both pre and postcapillary vessels leading to leakage of fluid and finally edema. Do you have started amlodipine with your own or have taken the advice of treating physician Please consult him and ask if dose reduction will be helpful or you have to stop the medication? Second thing moderate drinking will damage liver which can also cause edema which should be kept in mind.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Hiren Hirpara
