Does Estradiol Cause Pain In The Breasts?

I am 63 years old , had hysterectomy in 1991, have been on HRT since 1995, but only a very low dose now.
I have recently been prescribed Estradiol and I'm now suffering with a very painful left breast, particularly around the nipple. Could this be connected to the Estradiol?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Estradiol can cause breast congestion and pain. You can try estrogen progesterone combination which has lesser incidence of breast tenderness compared to estrogen only therapy. Make sure that you don’t have any palpable lump in the breast. Do an ultrasound breast to rule out he presence of a lump.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
