Dear Karunya,

Clomiphene citrate is a medicine used for induction of ovulation (release of eggs from the ovaries) where the ovaries fail to ovulate. These pills are given for 5 days. Few days after that the ovulation results.

Ovulation Monitoring by ultrasonography after the day 9 of the cycle will give evidences of ovulation; more over it will help you to locate the day of ovulation so that you can plan your sexual relations on and around that day. Addition of Metformin and/or Myo inositol may give better results in case of failure of egg release due to PCOS.

Clomiphene citrate trial should not be extended beyond 6 cycles. If it fails to result in pregnancy, you may have to go for HMG/hCG combination therapy.

I hope this gives you preliminary guidelines.
