Do Tonsils Have A Spongy Look?

Hi there. Would you say that tonsils normally have a spongy look to them? My brother has had a sore throat for a while and has also been having tonsil stones and I just looked in his mouth and his tonsils look as if they are becoming porous with holes that actually looks like a large sponge from the ocean.

hello and welcome to health care magic,

Tonsils have small holes in them called the crypts and this is where you get tonsil stones and in chronic tonsillitis the they do enlarge.

So to answer your question I guess tonsils are like sponge!

If your brother has recurrent tonsillitis then you must get an ENT consult though

hope this helps

regards
