Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Do The Risks Of HCG Injections Outweigh The Expected Benefits?
Hi I had a successful pregnancy in 2013 by taking HCG injections through 12 weeks. However, after that I had 2 missed abortions (in 2015 and 2016) intrauterine demise due to no fetal heart beat, both at 7-8 weeks. I am pregnant again and thus insisted on the HCG shots this time (to me it looks like it made the difference). However, my doctor does not support it any more and put me on Progesterone tablets like the last 2 times. I am worried that this may not be enough. Pls tell me if the risks of HCG outweigh the expected benefits?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
HCG injections are used for increasing fertility... It's hazardous when taken in pregnant state. In that sense, it is contraindicated in pregnancy.
Progesterone is given in suitable dose (take it as per your doctor's advise). It is a proper medicine to support early pregnancy. So please abide by your doctor's advise thoroughly & remain carefree for pregnancy safety.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
