Do Pain Medicines Taken For An Injury Cause Constipation ?

I have been on pain medicine for an injury, which I know can lead to constipation and it has. I have been taking laxatives, Metamucil, and eating fiber bars. My stomach is hard and bloated and I have excessive gas. I am having a few BMs all of which are small. I generally go 1-3 times a day. Tonight I thought I released a small BM and when I went to wipe it was hanging there. I proceeded to pull it out. It was long and stringy. I put on a pair of gloves to investigate. It felt like tissue and had bubble like areas that I could squeeze, when I rinsed it, it was pink and felt fleshy. It almost appeared to be raw meat, no I do not eat raw meat. I fear this is part of my intestines?

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Analgesic medicines induces the gastroenteritis and it is very common consequences of analgesic or NSIAD (Pain medicines) it is a trend that PPI always being given along with pain medicine like omeprazole and other related of same drugs.

I actually advise my patient to stay away from the pain medicine as long as it is possible, it can only be taken where pain can not be bear or tolerated, I also advise that never ever take the laxative without any pathological or indication instead drink more water try fiber containing diet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
