Diagnosed With Hip Dysplasia, Took Cortisone Shot, Experiencing Pain In Buttocks Area. Cause And Cure?

I was diagnosed with hip dysplasia several months ago. I started treatment with a cortisone shot to the hip…several weeks later I started to experience pain in the buttocks area, eventually the pain moved and centered on the coccyx area. I then had a cortisone shot in the coccyx joint . This cleared up the coccyx pain immediately (hip pain was gone, also). 3 months after the first hip injection I needed another injection in the hip for the pain…the pain is repeating..lots of pain in the buttocks/coccyx area. My question…is the hip injection causing the referred pain in the buttocks/coccyx area OR are the two areas linked by tendons and ligaments. Seems like the cortisone shot in the hip area is too aggressive for pain management…also, I have been doing PT treatments (5 months) along with the shots to address the hip displaysia

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The cortisone shots are not much helpful in case of a hip dysplasia since the pain is not due to an inflammation in the area. You need a repeat evaluation and a second opinion regarding the treatment.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
