Diagnosed With Hiatal Hernia. Feeling Hungry In Middle Of Night. Suggestions?
Hi Doc. I have just been recently diagnosed with hiatal hernia due to pregnancy and stress related lifestyle. I'm still breastfeeding my 8 month old baby and get very hungry in the middle of the night. I was told not to eat 2-3 hours before bedtime. what should I do when I get hungry at 3am after breastfeeding? Hope you can help. Thanks. Abbey Nocon from the Philippines
Your doctor is right in asking you not to eat a few hours before bedtime, but as of now your body needs to be able to provide for itself and the baby. So I would that you can eat some thing light when youn are hungry, but if it is around bedtime then I would prefer you to have more of fluids and less of solid food. This would help in filling your stomach.
You can have a mild snack, eg. A small bowl of salad with half a cup of milk. This might not be very appetizing, but it will not lead to any trouble while sleeping and will also provide you with all the nutrients you need.
Regarding the hunger, this can be related to all the hormones which are at their peak right. Do not worry, this will all subside with time.
And congratulations. Best wishes.
