Diagnosed With Herpes 2 On Genitals, Broke Out With A Blister On Lip. Will It Spread Across Body?

Hi, I ve been diagnosed with herpies 2 on the genitals a year ago. Recently , I broke out with a blister on my upper lip . It seems to have a dark spot in the center. Could I have self infected my lip by touching an outbreak on my body? The first outbreak occurred on my buttocks and went away for a year. Now, I m getting more mild outbreaks on the buttocks

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting your query.
Herpes genitalis is caused by Type II herpes simplex virus.
This same virus may also cause herpes labialis (as in your case). Herpes labialis is caused by both Type I & II herpes simplex virus.
This virus remains in dormant condition in nerves of affected skin area which may get activated when there is breach in immune system.
You should consult with internal medicine specialist/ dermatologist and should go for proper treatment.
You should also take antiviral medications both oral tablets and topical application.
Take care,
Dr.Mayank Bhargava
