Diabetic Taking Stresnil Tablet To Sleep. Drug Has Been Banned. Suggest?

Hi
My Mother is 75 years old and is a Type 2 Diabetic. She's been taking Stresnil tablet for the past 10 years to sleep. recently found out that the drug has been banned and her doctor asked her to go to a psychiatrist to get a new prescription drug to sleep. She is unable to sleep all night without the medicine. Any advice is helpful.

HI, thanks for using health care magic

There are alot of agents that can be used to help with sleep.

Some of the most common medications used ambien , zolpiclone and the benzodiazepines. Examples of benzodiazepines are alprazolam, lorazepam, valium.

It is always best not to be on these agents long term and it may be best to speak to a psychiatrist as suggested by the doctor.

A sleep specialist may also be able to determine the cause of the sleep difficulty.

I hope this helps
