Diabetic And Taking Caumadin For Mitral Valve Disease. How Much Vitamin K Dose Is Required Daily?
My mother in law has mitral valve disease and is a diabetic. She takes Coumadin to keep her blood at certain level. Last week her level was 4.5, this week it is 1.5. She takes the 10 mg. Coumadin but has to adjust almost weekly because she can not get her level correct. How much vitamin K does she need daily?

Your mother-in-law needs to visit a physician for evaluation of the reason for not able to maintain PTT level on coumadin. Most of the times it is due to some drug interaction since patient's like your mother-in-law are on multiple medications simultaneously. I would advice her to visit local physician than suggesting dose changes here on this forum.
