Diabetic. On Amaryl And Janumet. Gained Abdominal Fat. Can Try Fenfuro?

My mother has type II diabetes for the last 10 years and she is now on 1 mg amaryl in the morning Half an hour before food and .5mg before dinner.. Just before her breakfast she takes a capsule of 50/500 janumet ( Stagliptin/metformin). Her blood sugar is usually normal except at times when she over indulges... she has recently gained a lot of abdominal fat which our family doctor says is normal as she cannot exercise due to the weather here ( darjeeling ) and the ongoing strike... Should I try out FENFURO

Hi,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic,
After going through the all available details your mother is having Diabetes type II and central obesity.

I am happy to know with treatment her diabetes is reasonably controlled her treatment seems all right.

She should take care of her diet and regular brisk walking 30 to 45 minutes regularly once weather improves.
The FENFURO is herbal product and derived from Fenugreek and works as insulin sensitizer and helps in maintaining blood sugar under control.
Please discuss with your physician before taking it.

Central obesity is common in such patients due metabolic syndrome, this take long duration and continuous effort to lose weight and inches.

Hope this information is useful to you.
Take care
Good Luck.

Diabetologist Dr. Y. N. Singha's  Response
hello,
after going through your query,

1. amaryl(glimepiride) tends to increase weight , a possible reduction in dose or substitution by another drug viz. increasing the dose of Metformin, which is seen to reduce weight may be an option ... without compromising her glycemic control
.... in the same vein you can think of giving Janumet twice a day... that must definitely help on both counts,i.e. weight and sugar levels

2. I would suggest her to have aerobics on a regular basis if it is feasible
3. orlistat 60mg twice daily may be considered for weight reduction

hope this helps
