Dent And Bruise After Forearm Getting Hit, Tingles And Cold Sensation Through Vein. Is It A Blood Clot? Suggestions?

Hi - I bumped my forearm pretty hard about a month ago. It hurt, left a small dent and bruise. Didn't think anything of it until after a long haul flight noticed a round darker tender bruise with a small hard lump in the centre. I have some slight hand tingles and a cold sensation running through the vein there when I touch the lump. Should I be worried about a blood clot or is this just a hematoma/bruise. I am also breastfeeding. Thanks.

Hi,

Based on the information you are having a dark round bump in your forearm due to blunt trauma and now having an tingles and cold sensation around the bump when you touch it.

Well it does seem like a hematoma, which simply means collection of blood, it change its color from red to dark red to purple or black, which is a normal process for body to absorb the blood and get it recycled. The cold sensation/ tingles is probably due to some nerve that may be passing underneath the collection of blood. The collected blood may be causing a pressure on the nerve and hence you are getting the funny sensation. Their is nothing to worry about it will take some time (around 3-4 weeks) for it to resolve completely.

Now about treatment, since you are breastfeeding, you may resort to cold/hot compression only if you are having pain. Please do not touch or irritate it. Give it a time to resolve, in case of fever please contact near by physician.

Hope it helps
