Deep Bites In Leg By Stray Dog. Took Immunoglobin, Rabipur And Anti-tetanus Shot. History Of Shots Of Rabipur Due To Scratch By Monkey. Right Treatment?
Hi
My spouse was received three shots of Rabipur - Anti Rabies vaccine last year - Aug '12 when she was scratched by a monkey - superfical scratches only. Today, she was bitten by a stray dog and I immediately rushed her to ER. She had deep bites in her leg. Doctor gave her 6 ampules of Immunoglobin, 1 dose of Rabipur and Anti Tetanus shot. Since it was a stray dog and there was no way for me to watch for the dog. Is the treatment in the right line? Should a person carry the antibodies from the previous bite and hence immune to rabies virus if any from the dog bit? CAn you guide me pls
There are chances of your spouse carrying antibodies against rabies as she received rabipur in the last year.
Continue the remaining schedule of rabipur injections as advised by her doctor as complete schedule of vaccination will give full protection against rabies.
Take care of the wound as you told it is deep.
Hope I have answered your query.
Regards.
