Dead Bat Fell Over House Fan Vent, Child Has Pimples On Shoulder. Should Vaccine Be Given Immediately?

We found a dead bat that fell out of our whole house fan vent. We think it flew in the front door last weekend when neighbors were pet sitting as we had a bat living on our porch. The bat can t be tested until Monday. My son has two pimple like things on his shoulder . Is it safe to wait over the weekend for bat rabies test results before we look into the vaccine?

Hello Cakah,

Thanks for posting
Just wish to know if in your area the bats there have been found to be carriers of rabies virus? ( as not all bats are carriers). Are they vampire bats (blood sucking) around you? If there has never been an alarm of rabies infected bats, then you need not worry with the vaccination ( not as an emergency). You can later on be vaccinated. You can ask an animal control department for more information the kind wild animals inhabiting your area.
If you suspect a bite already after getting more info on those bats, then a vaccine after a serum is recommended.
Hope this helps
