Dark Brown, Thick Discharge With Minute Clots. History Flu, Intake Of Medications. On Microgynon Ocp, Presently On 7 Day Break. Opinion?

hi i am 33 years old i recently started microgynon ocp and am presently on my 7 day break. my menstruation started on wednesday as it normally has for the past 2 breaks but this time the discharge is dark brown and thick with very minute clots when i wipe. i had the flu a week before my break and i took bisolvon, guaifenesin, metronidazole and claricort. can you please explain if possible the cause of the odorless, thick brown discahrge. i had a slight tension feeling on my left groin air for weeks. what could this mean. i have no pain.

Hello and welcome to HCM,

The use of Oral contraceptive pills (OCPs) is to prevent conception.
However, OCPs also affect the menstrual cycles.
The menstrual flow usually becomes scant, dark colored.
The cycles become more regular and better timed.
The bleeding occurring during OCP use is withdrawal bleeding and is different from routine menstrual bleeding.
Hormonal abnormalities if present are corrected by OCP use.
There is nothing to worry.
These changes in menstrual cycle are normal changes and nothing abnormal about them.
A preceding history of flu or drug intake is not associated with the change in menstrual cycles.

Thanks and take care
