Could The Dead Skin In Upper Lip Be Chapped Lips Or An Infection Or A Cold Sore?

I am developing a what feels like patch of firm dead skin of the upper part of my upper lip. I have only had immediate signs for two days. Yesterday being day one it slightly stung, and today it has developed a harsh texture. Visually it is just a bit red, but physically is tougher and rough. I do kiss on a daily basis, eat an average intake, apply blistex chapstick daily, and brush my teeth. If you could please help me with whether this is something as simple as chapped lips to an infection or a cold sore. That would be nice. Thankyou.

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM.

It is hard to be absolutely sure of the diagnosis without having a look at it Or a look at the picture. Herpes labialis usually classically presents initially as a patch of erythema/redness associated with weird sensation or tingling, numbness etc and then it rapidly turns into grouped discrete vesicles whereas simple chapping of lips has no vesicles at all.

I would advice that you either see a nearby dermatologist or you can post me a direct query along with a picture of the affected area by clicking on http://doctor.healthcaremagic.com/doctors/dr-kakkar/66939.
