Could Smoking Pot Cause Sudden Drop In Blood Sugar Level?
Hi, may I answer your health queries right now ? Please type your query here...I have a male friend who just turned 40 that was smoking pot and suddenly he was totally passed out with all the symptoms of going into shock like low blood sugar. He ate a large balanced meal and also had 3 or 4 beers. He responded to orange juice. Would the pot have caused this sudden drop in blood sugar or might there have been something else triggered by the smoking of pot?

it's quite a stretch for it to be blood sugar. Marijuana has mild stimulant properties on heart rate. It has significant effect on the lungs. Hyperventilation certainly can cause someone to pass out. In theory the stimulant properties could lower sugar a bit, but this is not at all common. More common is contamination of the marijuana with other drugs that have a lot of stimulant effects such as PcP
