Hello Sir,

First of all I want to congratulate you and your wife for your baby and welcome you to Healthcare Magic. I read your query and I understand your concern.

During the pregnancy body metabolism increases, because it has to function for two persons now instead of one. Thyronorm (levothyroxine) is similar to the hormone T4 made by the thyroid, so it will not cause any problem to your child, al contrary, its level has to be adjusted and your wife's doctor has to monitor thyroid function tests every 4-6 weeks during pregnancy.
The dose of levothyroxine can be increased accordingly to accommodate the increase in thyroid hormone replacement required during pregnancy. I would advice your wife to take the prenatal vitamins (if she is taking) 3-4 hours apart of taking levothyroxine because iron and calcium in prenatal vitamins may block the absorption of thyroid hormone.

Hope I helped with my answer. For further concerns or follow up questions, feel free to ask again, I will be glad to help you.

Kind Regards,
Dr. Ina
