Could Exapride Help In Reducing Insulin Dose Without Any Detrimental Effects?

I am a 70 yrs old diabetic since last 32 yrs taking oral( containing metformin HCl,500 mg) as well as human insulin (30% fast acting and 70% slow acting insulin( my body weight is 56 kg).My mixtard insulin dose is 5 units before breakfast and 10 units before dinner.My diabetes is under good control with the medications mentioned above and diet and some light exercises,lasting about 40 minutes.
Recently I heard about Exapride(Exenatide inj.) which is said to reduce the dose of insulin.Hence ,i would like to know whether this Exapride will help me also in reducing my insulin dose without any detrimental effects.
If possible,I would like to use this inj.to improve my health in general.This medicine is also said to reduce appetite so that my central convexity can be reduced to some extent.
Pl.guide me .

HI, I had gone through your query and understood your concerns.

Sir, Exenatide is in a class of medications called incretin mimetics. It works by stimulating the pancreas to secrete insulin when blood sugar levels are high. Insulin helps move sugar from the blood into other body tissues where it is used for energy. Exenatide also slows the emptying of the stomach and causes a decrease in appetite.

This definitely helps in reducing the insulin. But the insulin dose you are taking already a minimal dose. As far as I am concerned, as a treating doctor i don't find any special use in it except reducing appetite. If that is your main concern you can discuss with the treating doctor for further proceedings.
