Could Arc Of Flashing Lights On The Outer Region Of My Right Eye Be A Sign Of Migraine?

I just experienced an arc of flashing lights on the outer region of my right eye. It lasted about 5 minutes then faded away. Could this be from a retinal tear or something else entirely? I would assume with a retinal tear that the flashing would continue. I've also heard it could be a sign of an oncoming migraine, but I have never experienced a migraine.

Hi,

Thank you for posting your query.

I have noted your symptom.

The visual symptoms can precede the episode of headache in a person with migraine. This is called as aura.

Similarly, a retinal tear can also give rise to similar symptoms.

Since, you did not have headache after the visual symptom, we can not make a definite diagnosis of migraine at this stage.

Please get your retina examined.

I hope my answer helps. Please get back if you have any follow up queries or if you require any additional information.

Wishing you good health,
