Congestion In Throat, Accumulation Of Phlegm, Coughing, Irritation In Throat. Solution?
Sir I have been suffering from congestion in the throat and accumulation of thick phlegm , coughing and irritation in the throat. This is often more in the evenings and night. This condition has been there since last two weeks, but since last two days there is irritation in the throat and it appears that some of the food taken at dinner is remaining in the throat. I have so far not taken any anti-biotics except a few cough drops ( vick and Alex). When time permits I am gargling with warm water. I am otherwise healthy, 47 years old male.
hi there, from your history it looks like you might be suffering from gastric reflux. This could happen if you are over weight,or consuming lots of fatty and spicy food just before bed time, or could be due to peptic ulcer disease. You need to visit your physician and get an endoscopy done to rule out this condition,.In the mean while you could start some antacids and make some changes in your food habit like taking small nonfatty and spicy food at regular intervals, taking a stroll after evening supper and giveing a gap of atleast an hour between meals and your sleep time. Try to lose weight if you are over weight. All these will heip in relieving symptoms but you need to get a physician consult to rule out the cause. Take care.
