Child Has Swollen Fingertips, Numbness, Fever. No Pain. Earlier Had Rash. Need For Alarm?

My 7 yr old Grandson recently started having swollen fingertips. One finger at first, then a few more They are also hard and spongy. He said today they felt numb. No pain tho. He ran a low grade fever about a week ago and I took him to the Dr. Red throat that was negative for strept. Also had a rash, which is now gone. The Dr. did ask him if he burnt his finger. Which he sid no to. It was just one finger then. Should I be alarmed?

Hello,
thanks for using health care magic.

For sure every abnormality warrants investigation because even behind apparently benign conditions could be potentially severe conditions or conditions that could become severe.

Since the symptoms have rather aggravated and now extending to more fingers, following your last consultation, it is necessary to re-visit the doctor for another detail examination. At this stage, with more symptoms, it could be easier to make a diagnosis.

The doctor should as well examine the child's heart for abnormal murmurs which could be indicative of an infective endocarditis.

Best regards
Dr Achuo
