Child Has Sores In Hand, Foot And Mouth. Treatment?

My 10 year old grandson was told that he had hand foot and mouth disease. We live in Arkansas and I just do not beleive it to be so. I would like a picture of the sores and the simptoms so I can even see if this is a fact. How is it diagnosed and what is the treatement how is it contracted and can the other children get it?

hello dear,
thanks for your query at HCM,
i understand your concern regarding your grandson,
hand foot mouth disease is caused by various viruses mainly by enterovirus 71 and coxsackie b type viruses
oropharynx is inflammed and red, scattered esicles on the tongue, buccal mucosa, palate and lips.
these lesions may ulcerate in 4 to 5days.
vesicular or pustular lesions may occur on hand and foot, usually they are tender and occur on the dorsal surface of the hand.
they may develop neurological or cardiopulmonary complications.
treatment is with immunoglobulins, and interferon and they are used whrn neurological or cardiac abnormality develop . not used for regular skin lesions.
hopes he get well soon

regards
