Child Has Red Marks On Back And Hip, No Rapid Weight Fluctuation, Normal Growth Spurt

My son approximately 8 months ago has deep maroon horizontal marks mid back and small marks on the hip area (boxer area) We have gone to the doctor and it was determined perhaps Stiae....however, I wonder if there is more to it. He has not had rapid gain or loss of weight. He is 15 5 8 and 126lbs. He did have a growth spurt which I felt was normal...not just overnight but gradual.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

Infants do have pale blue spots on the back and hips and even lower legs which are know as Mongolian spots. They disappear over a period of time and are of no significance. Probably your son has these marks.

I am unable to comment on the weight as the figures appear confusing to me. It shall be better to discuss with your doctor with all the earlier weight records so that a proper assessment can be done.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your son all the best.

Regards,

RKK
