Child Has Pain Between Ankle And Foot. Could It Be A Stress Fracture?

my 6 year old is complaining of pain in the front of his ankle, not near what I would call a tendon issue but in the actua
l front of the ankle and foot where they make contact. He says it hurt when impact occurs for example during track practice at drill time (which is bounding...high impact type, but not lunges...no impact), could it be a stress fracture?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

If your 6yrs is able to move his foot and there is no significant swelling then it is less likely that he is suffering from fracture. It must be either a sprain or soft tissue injury. You need to give him painkillers , warm fomentation and apply muscle relaxant gel on the area of injury.

If the pain is excruciating then it would be advisable to get him examined and X-rayed to rule out fracture or hair-line fractures.

Bye
