Child has febrile seizures with high fever. On nicorate. Further guidance?

hello sir my son age 7 years suffering from febrile seizures , when high fever comes febrile seizures happening, already three time it affected, during the year 4.5 year,6.5 year,7 year. i consulted the doctor ,he said to do three test,CT scanning, EEG test. ct scanning is shows normal, but EEG report showing some abnormal .so doctor sugest to take medicine upto 2 year, NICORATE 200MG daily two time so i am totally confused. febrile seizures comes only in high fever, please guide me

Febrile seizures usually occur between the ages of six months and six years. However, in your son's case, the last two episodes have occurred after the usual age for febrile seizures. In addition, EEG is abnormal. Therefore, in your son's case, he has an epilepsy, which is getting triggered by the high fever. I would agree with your doctor that anti-epileptic medication is necessary in your son's case.

your son may be having a atypical febrile fit mostly triggered by fever because of the age (above 6yrs) but I have no doubt to name this, still as fever-induced fit (F-I-F) ; to treat or not is debatable as it may still recur despite your treatment if there is high temperature of the body. The EEG report is misnomer and these non-specific changes in EEG doesn't warrant treatment in the strict sense. You send me a copy of EEG to read it carefully, if you need. But with available resources of what you meant, I strongly suggest to withdraw the above medication.
