Child Constipated. On Miralax. Given Colom Prep. Will He Be Okay?

Hi Dr. Grief I have A 9 yr old son Who is having issues with constipation and accidents (Bowel) I give him 1 cap full of Mira Lax every other day and watch what he eats. Do you have any suggestions for us. I'm trying to get him in with a specialist but they keep giving me a run around and cant seem to get in , his pediatrician has gave him a colon prep just to clean him out and it worked for a while then started up again. Please help.

The cause for bowel accidents in your child is due to constipation with fecal impaction.

Treatment should be aimed at constipation.

Ask him to drink plenty of oral fluids.

Give him dietary fiber rich foods daily such as vegetables, fruits, and leafy vegetables.

Ask him to go sit for 5 to 10 minutes daily.

Look for the organic causes of constipation by pediatrician consultation with investigations like ultrasound abdomen and thyroid profile.
