hi Doctor! my name is Rafael and my daughter born at 36 weeks has ectopic thyroid and has hypothyroidism . she started with levaxin immediately on her first week of life with 37.5 microgram per day. her tsp level was 377 and after two weeks it it went down to .83 but her t4 is high at 38. we were told to give her 25microgram twice a week and 37.5 five times a week. we had another appointment for bloodtest last nov 12 and her tsp level now is .24 and her t4 went up to 44. help us please to give the right dosage and when to give it. thank you so much.

Hi Rafael,
Your daughter was diagnosed with congenital hypothyroidism for which treatment was started appropriately. At present her TSH is low and T4 is high. This means that the dose of thyroxine she is receiving is higher than what she requires. You can reduce the dose to 25 microgram per day and repeat TSH and free T4 after 5 weeks. If the TSH levels still do not increase and T4 levels continue to be high, you should consult a paediatric endocrinologist.
Also I need to know a few more details regarding the growth and development of your child to help you better.
1) How old is she now?
2) What was her birth weight and present weight ?
3) If you can tell me her head circumference?
4) Does she fix & follow objects, does she turn to sound, does she smile meaningfully when you interact with her?

Hope this change of dose works.
Regards
