Can Worsening Hiatal Hernia Cause Heartburn, Severe Acid Reflux And Irritable Bowels?

I was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia about 2 years ago and I ve had GERD for about 10 years. But the 3-4 months have been really bad with acid reflux, vomiting in the middle of the night and I either have diarrhea or constipation, there is no in between. When my heart burn get really bad it makes my chest hurt and makes it hard to breathe. Could this be my hiatal hernia getting worse? Or should I be concerned with other issues?

Answer:
Hello,

Hiatal hernia is the cause of your heart burn especially during the night, acid reflux, vomiting and difficulty breathing. These symptoms indicate that the hiatal hernia is getting worse. Diarrhea and constipation might be related to digestion problems, to irritable colon syndrome but also to other digestive tract problems.

I suggest you to consult a gastro hepatologist for physical examination and to perform endoscopy. Meanwhile you can use Omeprazol twice daily(before breakfast and before sleeping at night), you can try eating frequent small meals and avoid spicy and fried food.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
