Hi,

Dilzem XL (diltiazem) is a medication used to treat high blood pressure and chest pain caused by angina. It works by relaxing the blood vessels, which allows blood to flow more easily and reduces the workload on the heart. Stopping Dilzem suddenly or decreasing the dose too quickly can cause withdrawal symptoms. These symptoms can include headaches, dizziness, rapid heartbeat, sweating, and anxiety. Pain in the temple area is not a common withdrawal symptom of Dilzem, but it is possible.

If you have been taking Dilzem for 20 years and are experiencing withdrawal symptoms, it is important to talk to your doctor. Your doctor may recommend gradually decreasing your dose over a longer period or switching to a different medication.

In the meantime, you can try over-the-counter pain relievers like acetaminophen or ibuprofen to manage the pain. You can also apply a warm compress to your temple to help ease the discomfort. Make sure to get plenty of rest and stay hydrated. Avoid caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco, as these can worsen withdrawal symptoms.

If you require a personalized response, kindly use the Ask A Doctor service and post a follow-up. Take care. Hope I have answered your question.

Hi,

Dilzem XL (diltiazem) is a medication used to treat high blood pressure, chest pain (angina), and certain heart rhythm disorders. It works by relaxing blood vessels and increasing blood flow, which can reduce blood pressure and help prevent chest pain.

Stopping Dilzem suddenly can cause withdrawal symptoms, including chest pain, high blood pressure, and palpitations. However, your symptoms of pain in the right temple and a dull feeling in your head are not typical withdrawal symptoms of Dilzem.

These symptoms could be related to a variety of factors, including tension headaches, migraines, sinus problems, or other medical conditions. It is important to speak with your doctor about your symptoms to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.

It is also important to note that stopping any medication, especially one that you have been taking for a long time, should be done under the guidance of a healthcare professional to ensure it is safe and appropriate for you to do so.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
